Caroline Shearer - Chief Executive Officer

Continually driven by the devastating loss of Jay in September 2012, Caroline Shearer has worked tirelessly and with outstanding strength to promote the charity Only Cowards Carry making young people aware of the dangers and impact of knife crime. Caroline started the charity with just a bookmark and since then, has led the charity to educating over 30,000 young people across Essex. Caroline leads a committed team and delivers the messages across the county.

Experienced in fostering in and working with youth, Caroline really engages with young people, gaining their respect and delivering powerful messages on knife crime and related issues. A force for positive change, Caroline has received the Points of Light Award from David Cameron for Outstanding Volunteering and has received the British Citizen Award. Her charity is her life and her work keeps her going, hoping to prevent others from experiencing what she has.

Caroline brings experience from previous roles as an Area Marketing Manager whole of East Anglia as well as Business Management experience. She is qualified and experienced in Adolescent Fostering and youth counselling.

Shani Jackson- Managing Director

Shani started as a volunteer for Only Cowards Carry in 2012 and has shown her outstanding devotion to the charity, moving to a position as the Community Liaison Officer and to her current position as the Managing Director of the charity in June 2014.

With previous experience volunteering for Crimestoppers, Shani is proficient and dedicated to charity work.

With a degree in Criminology and vast experience in communication roles, Shani identified her propensity to support the community and her education and knowledge is extremely valuable to Only Cowards Carry.

Working tirelessly, Shani manages and oversees all operations, develops projects and strategies, builds relationships with key partners and the community and represents the charity to an excellent standard

From a background in fostering, Shani acquired extensive experience working with children and young people and aims to make a difference to the lives of young people and works to create safer communities.

Natasha Potter- Senior Projects Development Manager

Natasha joined Only Cowards Carry in January 2015 and as the Education and Events Coordinator and has recently been appointed the position of Senior Project and Development Manager. Educated to Degree Level in Fine Art, Natasha brings her creativity, events management skills and innovative thinking to the role.

Natasha comes from a charity background including previous roles at the Head Office of Alzheimer’s Society in London working with the fundraising and events teams. Natasha has also completed online fundraising roles for charities. Target driven, Natasha has over 6 years’ experience in the commercial sector from which she developed excellent communication skills, confidence and drive.

Natasha works on many different projects across the charity focusing on the funding and development opportunities as well as overseeing operations, events management, fundraising and training.

Natasha is passionate about the charity and making a difference to the lives of young people and communities.

Sarah Cordrey- Trainer

Sarah is a Trainer for Only Cowards Carry, delivering awareness sessions on Weapons, Gangs Culture, Drugs and Alcohol and Bullying to young people, groups and communities across Essex.

With excellent presentation and communication skills as well as experience working with children, Sarah really engages with the young people and delivers the lessons in an interactive, informative and authentic manner. Her professional approach delivers the key messages of the charity to an excellent standard.

Sarah also has previous experience working in administrative roles, has great interpersonal skills and is extremely passionate about the charity, with a focus on positive opportunities for young people.
